Child Safeguarding Policy
At all times the child's needs are paramount and we must have a priority over those of anyone else. (Children's Act 1989) We have a duty and responsibility, as carers to protect all children in the nursery.
- All members of staff in the Day Nursery have a current Enhanced CRB check and have access to Child Protection training.
- Before being appointed all references are taken up and qualifications are checked.
- We have a responsibility to respond if we have any concerns about a child in our care.
- Should any member of the Nursery staff suspect that a child is being abused, they will immediately inform the Nursery Manager and/or child protection co-ordinator, who will then discuss the issues surrounding the suspicion of abuse with the parent/carer, with the child's Key worker present.
- A member of Senior Management will be informed where appropriate.
- If after discussion the nursery staff are still concerned, then a referral will be made to Children's Social Care and the St.Helens Safeguarding Children Board Procedures will be followed.
- If it is suspected a child is in danger then Children's Social Care Services will be informed immediately without the prior permission of the parent/carer. (The child's welfare is paramount).
- Should an allegation of abuse be made against a staff member, student or volunteer, the Nursery Manager will make the referral to the Children's Social Care Services and OfSTED will be informed.
- All allegations are confidential and under no circumstances will be discussed with anyone other than those directly involved.
- All investigations will be in line with the St.Helens Safeguarding Children Board procedures and conducted in conjunction with the St.Helens Safeguarding Children Board.
- If a child attending nursery, has an existing injury the parent/carer will be asked to complete an incident form to detail the existing injury.
There is a designated Child Protection Co-ordinator on the nursery team - Sue Cathcart - Deputy Manager.
